Travelers Inn History

Located in the heart of historic downtown Alexandria, the 85 year old Travelers Inn restaurant has become a landmark in central Minnesota as it boasts being one of the oldest operating restaurants in America.  Founded by Tom and Magdalena Rose, “Travs” has been serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner to the locals and summer residents nonstop since 1925.  The Sieve family, only the fourth owners of record, has held the reins of this famous midwest eatery since 1967.  Current third generation Sieve brothers, A.J. and Patrick, have stepped in and brought a youthful exuberance to the restaurant. Both A.J. and Patrick have spent a considerrable amount of time in Minneapolis and San Diego working in the restauant business.  The brothers are working hard on keeping the same classic dining experience while introducing some new and exciting dishes.

Travs has been known for years as the local gathering place.  Featured by popular travel series, “On the Road” with Jason Davis, this local favorite is considered a must see and experience on a visit to Alexandria.   Known for scratch cooking from home made soups to pies and pastries, you’ll find something for everyone.  Great breakfasts are served all day and have become a trademark.  Don’t miss a chance to experience a part of Alexandria’s history and the old fashioned comfort food of the historic Travelers Inn restaurant.
